Cladding Info
Vinyl Cladding is a cost-effective, lightweight, insulated exterior cladding system. It’s had a solid 60-year history worldwide, and over 45 years use in New Zealand. This makes our weatherboards one of the longest standing UPVC products in New Zealand.
Some Key Features:
Cost Effective
With our Vinyl Cladding, the price you pay is the final price, no sanding, prepping, or painting needed after installation. That means more time and money for the things that matter most.
UV Stable
Engineered for extreme sunlight, our vinyl cladding is infused with Titanium Dioxide for top UV stability. After 60+ years in tough climates, including 30 years in NZ and Australia, it still looks amazing.
Durable
Don’t let the weight fool you, our vinyl cladding is seriously strong. Designed to stand up to all kinds of weather while still looking sharp, it’s made to go the distance. With a 50-year Manufacturer’s Warranty, you can count on long-lasting performance and peace of mind.
Energy Efficient
Our vinyl cladding doesn’t just look good, it works hard behind the scenes too. With built-in insulation options, it helps regulate your home’s temperature year-round, reducing the need for heating and cooling. That means a more comfortable home and potential savings on energy bills.
Performance to the Core
Unlike wood or fibre cement, vinyl cladding is completely immune to water damage. There’s no need for painting or caulking to keep moisture out. Fibre cement can absorb water through cracks in the paint, leading to swelling, rot, and deterioration. Vinyl cladding, on the other hand, doesn’t absorb water at all, and even helps your home’s walls breathe and dry out naturally. It’s low-maintenance protection you can rely on.
Colourfast
The colour runs right through the board, no peeling, no fading, no painting ever. Perfect for upper levels and tricky spots you never want to deal with again.
New Zealand Compliant
With 60 years of international success in the harshest environments, including NZ, and rigorous BRANZ testing, Mitten Vinyl exceeds the NZ Building Code. It’s the trusted choice across America and Canada, so you can be sure it’s built to stand the test of time.
Low Maintenance
A simple hose down is all it takes to keep your cladding looking brand new. No painting, rotting, rusting, warping, or twisting. And if a board gets damaged, it can be replaced in minutes, easy as that.
Natural Disaster Safe
Light, strong, and flexible, our cladding moves with your building without damage. Perfect for earthquake and cyclone zones, 30-year-old installations in Christchurch still look brand new after the earthquakes.
What is R-Value?
The Term “R-Value” refers to the thermal resistance of a material. In simpler terms, it measures how well a material can resist the flow of heat. The higher the R-value, the greater the materials insulating properties.
It’s an important factor to consider when trying to improve energy efficiency and comfort in a building.
What R-Value can Vinyl Cladding Achieve?
Our foam-backed Vinyl Cladding installed over a 90mm framework, with an underlay of plywood or fibre cement sheeting, can achieve an R-value of approximately R1.5. This is partly due to the insulating air gap created by the wall cavity.
To further improve thermal performance, in-wall insulation (such as fibreglass batts) and a compliant wall wrap underlay can be added. By following these principles, an R-value of around R3 is likely achievable.
